Environmental diagnostics
Environmental diagnoses are site specific characterizations of the physical, chemical or biotic context, tending to establish the current status of an impacted area relative to existing national or international standards. Unlike the baseline studies, in the diagnostics, it is evident the degree of environmental alteration by an event (anthropogenic or natural).
Colombia, through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS), has established guidelines and terms for the development of specific Environmental Diagnostics for some projects that may affect the marine environment. The CSC performs diagnostics based on established methodologies and requirements from current legislation.
CSC experience in Environmental diagnostics (selected examples):
- Environmental Recognition of the marine area in the vicinity of a submerged coal barge (C.I. PRODECO S.A., 1997- 1998).
- Assessment of the impact caused by the spill of fuel oil in the sector of Salamanca Island Park road (C.I. PRODECO S.A., 2004-2005).
- Determination of the penetration of the salt wedge to the Sinú River dredging (DRAGADOS HIDRÁULICOS S.A., 2007- 2008).
- Plan of Mitigation and Compensation (PMC) of the environmental effects caused by the palm oil spill in the beaches and seabed of the Bay of Taganga and adjacent zones. (TERMINAL DE GRANELES LÍQUIDOS DEL CARIBE, 2008- 2009).
- Geological, geophysical, biotic diagnosis and characterization of water and sediment quality for the project of defining the design of the beaches between the Hoyo Soplador and San Luis in San Andres Island. (UNIVERSIDAD DEL NORTE, 2009).
- Granulometric, water and sediments quality and hydrobiological communities (benthic) study, in the vicinity of the Port Society Rio Cordoba, during and after recovery of the sunken barge in December 2010 SOCIEDAD PORTUARIA RÍO CÓRDOBA (VALE), 2011).
- Environmental characterization in the area of interest of Guajira Offshore Block # 3, Colombian Caribbean. (SHELL, 2013).
- Physical, biological and fisheries characterization of the area of influence of the project to export liquefied natural gas (PEGNL). Phase II. (PACIFIC RUBIALES ENERGY, 2013 – 2014).
