Coordination of Research and Information for Marine and Coastal Management

GEZ

Given the intensification of conflicts and challenges regarding the use of marine and coastal areas, as well as the challenges posed by Global Change, the GEZ Coordination leads scientific and technological research projects that contribute to the development of policies aimed at the sustainable management of coastal and marine areas, climate change mitigation and adaptation, information management, capacity building for institutions and support for decision taking processes both in national and international scenarios. GEZ works with a multidisciplinary approach; including economics, engineering, natural sciences and law; in collaboration with other areas of the Institute, as well as other Research Institutions which are part of the National Environmental System (SINA). The GEZ Coordination has worked on issues such as Integrated Spatial Planning for Marine and Coastal Areas and Marine Protected Areas; both in national and international scenarios, transferring the final results in appropriate languages to stakeholders. It includes research divisions on Global Change and Marine Policy, Information Analysis for Planning, as well as the Laboratory for Information Services, the Area of Scientific Communication, and the Documentation Centre.

Information Analysis for Planning – TIP

It designs, formulates and executes national and international projects and technical concepts allowing the planning and management of marine and coastal zones. , as well as environmental indicators, managing and supervising the resources needed for the fulfillment of objectives, goals and commitments agreed.

Global Change and Marine Policy - CGP

Information Services Laboratory - LABSIS

It coordinates the Environmental Information System in marine and coastal matters, aiming to keep it operational, providing marine and coastal information in different digital formats into the Colombian Environmental Information System. In addition, it is in charge of protecting the information assets generated by INVEMAR's missional research programs.

Documentation Center - CDO

It articulates the connection  between users and the different and  specialized information resources (bibliographical, audiovisual, cartographic, databases, Internet) in ¿¿marine and coastal sciences areas, and related subjects, providing users with free access to the information in various presentation forms to facilitate  the development of  investigation.

Scientific Communication - CMC

It provides the target audience, with available marine and coastal information of INVEMAR in different formats and means of access, improving the national and international visibility of the results, produced in the scientific investigations.
