History

 

In 1999, INVEMAR carried out the First National course and workshop on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), which gave rise to the National Network on Integrated Coastal Zone Management - REDCOSTERA. It was supported by Regional Environmental Corporations, public sustainable development corporations and national environmental Institutions with influence on national coastal zones, and others important offices as Planning National Department (DNP), the Ocean Commission (CCO) and Environment and Sustainable Development Ministry  (MADS).

 

 

Why RedCostera?

 

Some years ago Integrate Coastal Zone Management was call as the best way to achieve sustainable development of CZ. Afterward, RedCostera is oriented to establish information exchange, in order to encourage its knowledge and development of activities focused on ICZM at national level and to construct capacity building trough information. This network joins all members of Colombia Environmental National System ¿SINA- related whit coastal and marine issues.

 

REDCOSTERA is an instrument for the ICZM, mainly by means of sharing information and it is thinking as a gather mechanism among research institutions, coastal governmental offices and coastal communities, who focused their activities in ICZM subjects. RedCostera make use of the World Wide Web as a principal divulgation and communication instrument at national level but also enfold important regional information and virtual associates.

 

 

RedCostera purpose:

  • Furnish information about ICZM, make know experiences on ICZM and its likely use to national and regional development.
  • Look for information about ICZM activities and events (news, conferences, workshops, specific courses and training) in the national and international scale.
  • Set up a national directory of people and institutions that work on Integrated Coastal Zone Management at national level.
  • Offer a national virtual space to coastal zone managers to treat specific subjects or issues through forums, as well as exchange information and experiences.

 

 

Beneficiaries

 

This Network goes directed to research institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, universities and coastal zones stakeholders.

 

At national Level, this network connects nationals institutions that are members of Colombia Environmental National System ¿SINA- which work on CZ issues as Regional environmental Autonomous Corporations, Sustainable Development Corporations and research institution with CZ knowledge.

 

 

Coordinator

INVEMAR as National Marine Research Institute comprise all the organization and human resources capabilities to manage RedCostera. Then SINA institutions commissioned the Marine and Coastal Management Research Coordination GEZ to managed it.
